The origins and meaning of Smebble

Smebble brightens spaces and spirits around the world with colorful art. And it all began in Tucson, Arizona during the Covid-19 pandemic, with an aspiring artist and mom who hoped to create positive change for children in need.

From a small change in daily routine

Like many others during the early years of the pandemic, Smebble founder Myra Teak quickly realized the importance of prioritizing her mental well-being. For her, this meant carving out more time for creative self-expression, since she’s always found fulfillment in making things with her own hands.

She started engaging in short daily art activities with her young son. They explored different ways of combining colors, experimented with new tools and materials, and let their imaginations run wild. As the weeks and months passed, Myra became completely engrossed in making art for the sheer joy of it.

She was particularly fascinated by the medium of watercolor. The unpredictable way it flowed and bloomed on the page echoed the unpredictable world in which we lived. It wasn’t always possible to control where the paint went, which frustrated her initially. However, when she let go of her expectations and gave the watercolors more room to do their own thing, she experienced a strong sense of peace and acceptance. She knew then that she wanted art to remain a prominent part of her life.

To a small art business that gives back

At this point, Myra started exploring the idea of building a career centered around art. With the ongoing struggles in her community due to the pandemic, she knew she also wanted to leverage her art to give back and contribute to a better tomorrow.

In 2021, Myra founded Smebble with these convictions in mind. As a small art business, Smebble is a creative outlet and fulfilling career path that allows Myra to bring color and character into the lives of others. But it’s also a platform for social impact, with at least 15% of profits from every sale donated to charities that assist, uplift and empower children in need.

What does Smebble mean?

The term ‘smebble’ is a blending of the two words ‘small’ and ‘pebble’, and it embodies the idea that even the smallest pebble can start a ripple of change. You don’t need to have a massive budget, a large team, or years of experience to make a difference. All it takes is one small idea, effort, or action, executed with passion and purpose, to start a chain reaction that can transform your life, your community, and the world.

The latest change to the Smebble logo was intended to both incorporate this message and to improve legibility and color reproduction across different devices and media.
