At Smebble, we believe that every unused and discarded item holds untapped potential for creative reinvention. Rather than letting these items go to waste, we embrace a variety of upcycling practices to give them a new purpose, preventing overproduction in our studio.
From Practice to Product
We understand how important it is for artists and craftspeople to practice their skills and innovate. Sometimes this results in a gorgeous product on the first try, and sometimes it requires multiple attempts before achieving the desired result. At Smebble, we refuse to discard or stockpile those earlier attempts and practice pieces. Instead, we find ways to transform them into something useful.
For example, imagine a watercolor study that doesn’t end up as a finished artwork. Rather than abandoning it, we can carefully cut and shape it into a series of functional and visually stunning bookmarks. In this way, we ensure that the effort and resources put into developing our skills do not go to waste.
From Unsellable to Unique
In collaboration with print companies, we bring our colorful designs to life on various items such as art prints, greeting cards, and t-shirts. Occasionally, we receive deliveries that don’t meet our quality control standards due to mishaps during printing, packaging or transit. However, we refuse to simply dispose of these imperfect creations. Instead, we seek ways to give them a new purpose.
Let’s take an order of art prints that arrives with bent corners or other imperfections. By carefully selecting and cutting out the best parts of these prints, we can create unique gift tags that add a touch of artistic elegance to any present. Such tags not only enhance the gift-giving experience but also serve as a reminder of the beauty that can be found in repurposed materials.
